I love the sound The Edge uses in 'Magnificent'. I want to achieve this sound and was told he is using two delay times. The effects are routed in a parallel manner, such that the feedback of the first delay is not being fed to the second delay pedal. I can accomplish this in many ways, but wanted to know which way would allow for the least signal loss. Should I just split my dry signal out to multiple stompboxes? Or should i use FX loops? When I usetwo delay times in series, there are so many unwanted repeats that it just sounds all washed up. Also, this brings me to my next concern about time based FX. What seems to be best, before my amplifiers pre-amp or after it? How do i keep my delay clean and tight? I am a newbie at FX, so I apologize for the potential sense of ignorance. I hail from an acoustic background, but really am loving finding a great electric sound and tone now.

Sounds like a stereo feed to me. You also need a delay that can do both 1/4 and 1/8 note timed repeats for most of that Edge galloping delay effect.
The Edge's effect system is the most advanced and complex on the planet. I doubt if it is possible to match exactly what is going on. What delays are you using, do they have multiple taps? I recently got the new TC Electronics Flashback Delay and just love that puppy. It not only sounds great on all the modes it has but you can tone print upload new patches, they should work to get Edge to program some, now that would be major cool. At any rate it has an option switch for either 1/4 note or 1/8 repeats or both, so setting that on both 1/4 & 1/8 and hitting the right timing tempo you can get a dual echo which does not feed on itself but tosses the signal separately into the field at 1/4 and 1/8 note intervals. It is also stereo in and out if you can set that up. Best delay I have ever had and does more than some I have paid a lot more. |
